Bonus validity period

The period within which a bonus must be activated, used or wagered — after that the bonus and its winnings expire.

Also: bonus expiry · validity period · expiry date

Definition

The bonus validity period is the deadline by which a bonus must be used. If the deadline passes before the terms are met, the casino removes the bonus and usually the winnings made with it too.

A single bonus can include several different deadlines, so it is worth finding each of them in the terms.

Which deadlines a bonus can have

  • Activation deadline – how many days after registration or deposit the bonus must be accepted.
  • Usage deadline – free spins, for example, often have to be played within a shorter time than bonus money.
  • Wagering deadline – the time within which the wagering requirement must be met.

How the validity period affects a bonus's value

A short deadline combined with a high wagering requirement means a lot of play in a short time. Hypothetical example: if the bonus is €50 and the requirement 30×, you need to wager €1,500. Over seven days that is more than €200 of turnover per day. If that does not suit your usual pace of play, the bonus is worth less to you than its headline suggests.

Common mistakes

A frequent mistake is assuming all parts of a bonus are valid for the same length of time. Another is playing at higher stakes or more often as the deadline approaches so the bonus does not expire. Expiry is a loss of the bonus, not your obligation: better to let a bonus expire than to play beyond your limits. If needed, support is available at Peaasi.ee.

Guide

Bonus validity period – why the deadline matters as much as wagering

Every casino bonus comes with a deadline. The bonus validity period determines how long you have to activate the bonus, use it and meet the wagering requirement. If time runs out before the terms are met, the casino removes the bonus money and usually all winnings made with it. In offers aimed at Estonian players the validity period is often in the small print, yet this detail can decide whether the bonus is actually of any use to you.

Many bonuses have several different deadlines. First, an activation deadline: the offer must be accepted within a number of days after registration or deposit. Second, a usage deadline: free spins, for example, often have to be played within a shorter time than bonus money. Third, a wagering deadline within which the whole turnover requirement must be met. Common validity periods often fall in the range of 7–30 days, but each casino sets them itself, so always read the terms of the specific offer.

The validity period and the wagering requirement work together. A high requirement with a short deadline means you have to play a lot and fast. Hypothetical example: a €50 bonus with a 30× requirement calls for €1,500 of bets; over a week that is more than €200 a day on average. If that does not match your usual pace of play, the offer is not as valuable to you as the advert promises. A longer deadline does not make a bonus better in itself, but it gives you more freedom to play at your own pace.

In Estonia, bonuses may only be offered by casinos licensed by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board (EMTA). A licensed operator must publish bonus deadlines and other terms clearly so the player can make an informed decision. If the terms do not make clear how long a bonus is valid, ask customer support before activating it.

The most important rule: expiry is a loss of the bonus, not an obligation to play. If you notice you are raising your stakes or playing longer just so a bonus does not expire, it is time to stop. Casino games in Estonia are only allowed for people aged 21 and over. Set yourself time and money limits, and if gambling becomes a concern, help is available at peaasi.ee and tai.ee.
