Real money at a casino – which money is actually yours
An online casino account can hold two kinds of money at once: real money and bonus money. Real money is the part of the balance that belongs to you without conditions – your own deposits and winnings made playing with real money or whose bonus terms have already been met. Bonus money, by contrast, is extra money given by the casino that can only be withdrawn after the wagering requirement and other terms are met. For an Estonian player this distinction matters, because it determines how much you can actually withdraw at any given moment.
When you activate a bonus, the casino may show you one total balance containing both kinds of money. This can create the impression that the whole amount is yours. In reality, restrictions apply to the bonus part: the maximum bet, eligible games, validity period and maximum withdrawal. The bonus terms also decide which money is played first. With a non-sticky bonus, real money is usually used first; with a sticky bonus the money is often in one balance and the bonus part itself is never withdrawable.
In practice this means that requesting a withdrawal while a bonus is still active may lead to the bonus and its winnings being cancelled. At some casinos this can also affect winnings made with real money if they sit in the same balance as the bonus. So before withdrawing it is worth checking the status of the bonus and, if necessary, asking customer support which part of the balance is real money.
In Estonia, gambling may only be organised by operators holding a licence from the Estonian Tax and Customs Board (EMTA). A licensed casino must publish its bonus terms and withdrawal rules clearly, and your real money is protected under Estonian law. If a casino has no Estonian licence, you have no local supervision to turn to in a dispute.
If you want full control over your money, you can always decline the bonus and play with real money only – that way every win is withdrawable straight away. Whichever money you play with, play responsibly. Casino games in Estonia are allowed for people aged 21 and over. Set limits on deposits and playing time, and if gambling becomes a concern, turn to peaasi.ee or tai.ee for help.
